A little about us
It all started back In 1707 when Reverend Saywell left fourteen acres in Earith Wash into the care of the Rector and wardens of the church in Bluntisham to provide an annual income to educate poor children of the parish. Later, in 1842, Reverend Tillard also had a vision – that every child in Bluntisham deserved an education, regardless of their family’s means. He provided a school building on the High Street, creating a place where the village’s poorest children could learn, grow, and build better futures. The combined generosity of the two Reverends led to the later founding of the Saywell Tillard Education Charity.
For over 180 years the school building stood as a testament to their belief in the power of education. Then, in 2024, the old school found new life in a different form. The building was sold, but the mission lived on – the proceeds carefully invested to create a lasting fund. Now, instead of brick and mortar, Reverend Saywell and Reverend Tillard’s legacy supports young people across Bluntisham in countless ways, providing grants that help them pursue their educational dreams and vocational ambitions, whatever path they choose.
Funding eligibility
During our first two rounds of funding we provided financial assistance to people in the village that helped with the purchase of laptops, paying for school trips, covering the cost of music lessons and buying items of play equipment.
As a small local charity we are flexible in the range of grants we approve provided applicants meet the following criteria.
